Hip and shimmy clinic with Shoshana Mizell Have you tried to shimmy and sometimes it flows freely and sometimes it does not. Is it a hit or miss? Have you tried to execute a sharp hip accent but it falls flat? Fear not, it’s not you. The fact is that understanding your body and how it works best to effortlessly perform movements takes knowledge of where the movements come from. Everyone’s body, joint position, muscle strength and brain-body connections are not exactly the same. As a Belly dance teacher for 45 years and a NYS massage therapist for 20 years, I have the ability to assess where there is dysfunction in executing a movement and implementing or tweaking YOUR unique body to move the way you want it to! I have a formula that is a basic map to your body’s ability to do what your brain wants. Does it take a lot of practice and dedication? Absolutely! The point is, you do not want to do all that hard work practicing what is not of maximum results for YOUR body. It gives me deep gratitude to leave a legacy of all I have learned through my 45 years of dance to the dance community and know that the generosity of imparting the wonders of this sacred dance will live forever.

Meet Shoshana Mizell – A Lifetime of Dance and Dedication

Shoshana Mizell’s dance journey began at just 5 years old, exploring a variety of styles including Tap, Jazz, African, and Flamenco, each enriching her artistry and technique.
Everything changed when she stepped into a belly dance class at the Serena Wilson Dance Studio. Instantly, she felt at home and discovered her true calling.
Her professional belly dance career took off like a whirlwind. Shoshana became the featured performer at the legendary NYC nightclub El Sultan and graced top venues of the 1980s, including the Ibis, Cedars of Lebanon, Darwish, and Town Hall. Her talent carried her internationally to Panama, Egypt, and Israel, and she was a featured artist aboard Italian cruise ships traveling the Virgin Islands.
Shoshana’s passion for teaching blossomed at Serena Studios, where she joined as an instructor. In 1996, she took the leap to launch her own company, the Shoshana Dance Theater Company.
Reflecting on her journey, Shoshana says:
“From the moment my foot touched the stage in 1979, the magic has never left my spirit for the breathtaking art of belly dance.”

Mizrahi Beats Bellydance with Oreet [in-person] 

Take your dance to the next level with the earthy and soulful movements of Mizrahi style bellydance! Designed exclusively for experienced dancers with at least five years of training, this workshop will challenge and refine your technique while experiencing the rich cultural influences of Yemenite, Turkish, Egyptian, and other Middle Eastern styles.
This is not a beginner-friendly class—it’s for those ready to push their artistry, explore nuanced movement, and expand their repertoire with expressive styling to Mizrahi music. If you’re looking to grow as a dancer, embrace new layers of musicality, and embody the powerful essence of this style, this workshop is for you!
When: Saturday, March 15th 11am – 1pm EST; $40

SharQui Workout: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout.

SharQui 2: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout but kicked up a notch with intricate moves as well as speed.

SharQui Veil: A traditional SharQui Workout infused with safe veil technique. Enhance your workout from the added upper body toning. Veil is optional as options for students without veils will be provided. Newbie to experienced friendly.

SharQui Styles: Our traditional high-energy bellydance workout but fused with an inspiration of another dance genre. Each week will be a new dance style fusion.

SharQui Strength: Your traditional Sharqui Workout paired with light weights.  

SharQui Core: This cross training class combines light weights and Pilates mat exercises with bellydance movements, all focused on strengthening the abdominals and back for SharQui.

Crash Choreo: Learn a 1-2 minute choreography that gets your heart rate up.

Total Body Strength: This is traditional strength training class with weights and cardio. A great way to cross train your bellydance practice!

Stretch: Start and end your week with a deep stretch class that incorporates standing and floor positions to open and lengthen the muscles from all angles. A wonderful and important compliment to our SharQui program to help you stay flexible,  injury and pain free.

SW Instructor Shuffle: Our high-energy bellydance workout with a twist! Shuffle your routine and keep things exciting with a new instructor every week!
